We were sent an Airweave pillow and were curious because of the unique features. It’s much like their mattress because, it’s made mostly out of air and what they call Airfiber. There’s no foam or memory foam at all.

Made in Japan, many Japanese top athletes, airlines and hotels use Airweave products. In fact, if you look at the high reviews on Amazon, they’re mostly in Japanese. The funny part is that they call this pillow plush! It’s not! Regardless, we don’t recommend that you look at the review on Amazon, but we don’t recommend that you buy from there. It costs more and you can’t apply the coupon. Click here to read Airweave reviews in English.

This is a review of the Airweave pillow. They also have an S-line pillow. It came in a box, with a reusable, zippered cloth bag with handles for easy transport. The pillow itself came wrapped in plastic. We partner with different bedding companies to bring you reviews and are reader supported so when you shop through our links, we may earn a commission.

Be sure to scroll down to watch the video so you can see the Airweave pillow in action. In that video, I washed stains off the pillow and demonstrate different sleeping positions and how the pillow conforms (side, stomach or back sleeping positions).

Airweave Pillow Review

The Airweave pillow is more of a therapeutic pillow because it helps align your neck and provides a steady sleeping surface to support it. Most of airweave’s products are made from airfiber. And like the name suggests, it’s made mostly of air. Underneath the quilted breathable pillow case is a core made of airfiber which allows airflow through the pillow.

Airweave is a great firm for those with back or neck pain since it doesn’t go flat or change shape over time. Additionally, it has a lower profile so your neck will be at the best height for support.

I found this pillow comfortable (I’m a side sleeper) but not huggable. This isn’t a fluffy pillow, it’s more rigid and since I’m used to moving mine around and hugging it in my sleep, I found myself not needing to do that. It provides support for my neck (if I were a stomach sleeper I would remove the inserts because I found it a little too tall).

Germaphobes will love Airweave because everything is washable and hypoallergenic. You can wash the pillow or even vacuum it. The Airfiber doesn’t collect dust mites, sweat or other things that usually get absorbed into a pillow and cause it to break down or cause an allergic reaction.

What Airweave Pillow is Made Of

As we pointed out there’s no foam, feathers, down or latex in Airweave. The cover does add some softness while maintaining the breathability. I didn’t notice a smell at all.

Airweave Pillow Size and Thickness

One Size 15.7″ x 22.4″ x 4.3″ so the height is 4.3″ tall.

Weight: 2.2lb (very lightweight).

Your pillow should be around 3 to 6 inches thick.
The height of the pillow should be neither too high so that it tilts the head too far forward, nor too low that it extends the neck and tilts the head upwards. Generally, the pillow should be around 3 to 6 inches thick to provide adequate support. Unlike back and stomach sleepers, side sleepers require extra support.

A Pillow with Cooling Tech

Sleep hot and wake up in sweat? You won’t with Airweave because of their proprietary Airfiber® technology.  Airfiber lowers core body temperature faster so you fall into a deeper sleep faster. Whereas foam absorbs and traps body heat and can get uncomfortably warm, Airfiber has airflow and will not sleep hot because your body heat can easily dissipate.

And if you sleep hot, Airweave’s mattress is made from the exact same breathable material. It won’t sleep hot! The mattress and the pillow are lightweight and portable. In fact, the mattress comes in a box in 3 pieces that you put together and put the pad and cover over. Both the mattress and the pillow are made in Japan.

Airweave Pillow Cost

I expect this pillow to be long-lasting and durable based on how it’s made and the fact that there’s no foam to degrade over time. Cost for an Airweave pillow is $200. They do offer financing through Klarna – as low as $34/month.

Does it make noise when you move around?

Initially I was worried that the airfiber would be noisy but I didn’t hear anything and slept well the whole night.

Who would like this pillow?

You have neck pain and need to have constant support that keeps your neck in a straight line or close to it.

You have breathing issues or sleep on your stomach and don’t want to worry about cutting off some of your airway when you sleep.

You sleep hot and sweat a lot so regular pillows get soaked or wet and then you have to sleep in that.

A Pillow Made of Air?? 6 Facts about the Airweave Pillow

  1. Breathable – you can easily breath through the whole pillow. Even with the pillow lying on your mattress.
  2. Firmer Pillow that holds up your head and won’t sink in very much.
  3. Antimicrobial, Hypoallergenic, and Odor-resistant. You could literally vacuum this pillow every day to get allergens out. Whereas foam is like a giant sponge that traps things inside, the Airweave pillow doesn’t have anything that absorbs substances, dust, etc.
  4. Washable. If you’re a germaphobe or just like things clean, this pillow (and their mattress) is super clean. Not just in style with minimalist esthetics. You can put the entire pillow in the washing machine, making it easy to keep clean. You can wash everything, including the core of the insert.
  5. Sleeps Cooler because it’s mostly air so you have airflow between your head and the bed. It doesn’t have foam that sinks in and creates a crevice for your head where your body heat can build up in.
  6. Adjustable Height with 2 Inserts. Stomach sleeper and need a thinner pillow, just remove the 2 inserts and you’ll take about an inch from the pillow height.

The mattress is similar, reminds me of a baby mattress called Newton Baby. It’s also breathable.

Drawbacks are I can’t find a warranty and the sleep trial isn’t free as you have a restocking fee if you return the pillow (probably because these pillows are imported from Japan). However, if you are searching for the perfect firm pillow for you, it could be worth it. There are truly unique features you cannot find anywhere else.
