Looking to donate your bed in a box mattress to a charity? Adopt a Bed, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, now has pick up service in Arizona. Areas served: Maricopa County which includes Phoenix, Mesa, Gilbert, Tempe and Scottsdale.
If you have a mattress return from a bed in a box brand, it’s usually like new — usually only 100 days old or less. To get a full refund on most boxed mattresses companies will leave it up to the customer to find a charity to donate your bed to.
It can be challenging to find a charity that will accept these beds or any who provide a free pick up service. Without charities that accept these mattresses, they may end up being thrown away (sent to the landfill).
Arizona Charity – What Mattresses are Accepted
Adopt a Bed will accept a new mattress from almost any brand, however, it must be in good, clean condition. There is no charge for the service, though you may tip the driver or make a tax deductible donation.
Mattresses accepted include: Layla, Purple mattress, mattresses purchased on Amazon, Zinus, Nectar, Dreamcloud, Casper, Ghostbed, Voila, Avocado, Lull, Brentwood Home, Brooklyn Bedding and more.
No box springs are accepted and your mattress must be no more than 18 months old. They must be 2 years old or newer for a tax receipt (for your personal taxes).
Upon pickup you will get a physical receipt with the information required to process your refund.
Arizona Cities Where Pick up is Offered
Right now Adopt a Bed is doing pick ups in the Phoenix area only although they hope to expand to other areas of the state.
Adopt a Bed donates mattresses directly to those in need (when people fill out a request form on their website) or shelters, domestic violence centers and more.
