Purple Sheets vs Purple Softstretch Sheets

Purple Mattress Sheets | Which One is Best Original or Softstretch?

By | Sheets Reviews | No Comments

Purple logoIf you have or are buying a Purple mattress, you should look at Purple mattress sheets to go with it. In most cases the sheets don’t matter very much but when it comes to Purple brand products, they’re so unique that it’s best to buy the brand name sheets.

Purple Mattress Sheets

Purple mattresses are unique and so should bedding that goes with it. Regular sheets will restrict the movement of the Purple mattress. That’s why you should consider buying Purple mattress sheets. Every Purple mattress has the Purple grid on the top layer. It’s flexible in all directions and moves with you. It also sleeps cooler than almost any mattress you can buy.

Purple sheets are stretchy and soft. Both of them. That and the sheets are also moisture wicking so they don’t sleep too warm.

If you use regular cotton sheets they’ll fit more tight and restrict the movement – a key selling point of owning a Purple mattress. This movement is great for bad backs, sore hips and more. You really can’t beat it. There’s nothing like it. You won’t get stuck in it (like memory foam) and it feels sort of like you’re floating on the mattress.

So for that reason you should consider Purple brand sheets. However, there are reasons you may not want to. But in this article, the focus is on the two types of sheets: Purple Sheets (the original sheets) and Purple SoftStretch Sheets. They’re both made mostly of bamboo.

Purple brand sheets work with any mattress, but are ideal with a Purple mattress.

Both sheets offer a 100 day trial in which you can see how you like them and then you have 100 days and if you decide to return them, you can get a full refund. They also each have a 1-year warranty.

Each sheet set comes with

  • A flat or top sheet
  • Gathered fitted sheet
  • 2 pillowcases (the twin comes with 1 pillow case).
  • You can buy a set of 2 SoftStretch pillow cases separately, but the Purple sheets don’t have that option – they’re only available as a set.

Purple has 2 sheet styles to choose from and I think one is superior to the other and I’ll tell you why below…and we appreciate and may earn a commission when you shop through our links.

Original Purple Mattress Sheets

These are the original sheets from Purple mattress. They’re a mix of bamboo and spandex and are very stretchy. They’re also breathable and sleep cooler.

Colors: White, Slate, Sand, Purple (these are a deeper, true Purple)

Material: 10% Spandex*, 90% Bamboo-derived Viscose

Sizes: Twin/Twin XL, Full/Full XL/Queen, King/Cal King, Split King

Price for a Queen: $99
Check the website for bundles or current sales to save more.

The original Purple mattress sheets come in 4 colors and is unique in that it has a tanish color called sand and a true deep Purple color. Both have white but no creme option.

They’re quite stretchy, maybe too stretchy, akin to the stretch of a pair of nylons. We found them bunching up at the foot of the bed.

Verdict: We found the Purple sheets to be a bit too stretchy and the durability isn’t as good as expected for the price. And they only come in 4 colors. They’re more thin though, so if you like that, go with the Purple sheets. Just be sure to wash on cold and dry on cool to prolong the life of your sheets as long as possible.

Purple SoftStretch Sheets

The SoftStretch Sheets are still stretchy but not as stretchy as the original Purple sheets are. They’re also breathable, but they have added polyester to make them more durable. They’re also thicker than the Purple sheets.

Purple SoftStretch Sheets

Purple SoftStretch Sheets Packaging on Natural Oat Colored Sheets

Materials: 67% Rayon from Bamboo Viscose, 23% Polyester, 10% Spandex. So SoftStretch has the addition of polyester. They have the exact same amount of spandex. Polyester helps them hold their shape better.

Sizes: Twin/Twin XL, Full/Full XL/Queen, King/Cal King, Split King

Colors: True White, Stormy Grey, Soft Lilac, Natural Oat, Morning Mist, Deep Purple

They have a lavender shade (Soft Lilac) instead of a true Purple. The Natural Oat is more like a light gray than a tan shade as you’d expect. These are more subdued. Also, as of writing, the Kids sheets are the SoftStretch sheets with different packaging. They come in pink, a more royal blue and gray (the gray looks the same as the adult SoftStretch sheets).

Price for a Queen: $149

There are 6 colors to choose from and these are a little less stretchy and thicker than the Purple sheets. They’re very soft too. However, they’re almost $50 more than the Purple sheets. Is it worth it? We expect them to last longer with proper care be more durable.

Verdict:  The SoftStretch sheets are thicker, more durable, softer and not as stretchy as the Purple sheets. However, you get the same temperature – on the neutral to cool side.

They do cost more but we think it’s worth it. There is financing if you want to divide up your purchase into payments – ideal especially if you’re going to buy a Purple mattress, pillows or other accessories. Check website for bundle deals.

Which Purple Mattress Sheets Should You Buy?

Everyone is different in their preferences, so we’re just giving you our take. Both are stretchier and so they won’t have the crisp edges of cotton. If you fold down your sheets to make the bed, you may want to get crisper cotton sheets. These are more like a microfiber sheet.

Be aware that Purple pillows may not fit exactly in these pillowcases. They’re each different in dimension and sizes offered. Read our article about Purple pillows compared to learn more.

The kid’s sheets set doesn’t have a kid’s Purple pillow size pillowcase and is too large. We hope that Purple will eventually create kid sized pillowcases to go along with kid sized pillows. The kid’s SoftStretch sheets are only available in Purple. Given that the kid’s mattress is only 7 inches deep, the top sheet was way too large.

If you sleep cool or want warmer sheets for the winter, we recommend looking for jersey or flannel instead. We use a heated mattress pad. It’s a good idea to use a Purple mattress protector too, as it’s also stretchy (although not as stretchy as the sheets) and protects your mattress.

Overall, we much prefer the SoftStretch sheets for the reasons we outlined above.

How about you? Let us know in the comments.

Purple logoI Bought the New Purple SoftStretch Sheets – Here’s What I Think

In this Purple Softstretch sheets review I’ll go over what you need to know to help you make the best decision.

First, the packaging. As always the packaging is beautiful (gift worthy) and the SoftStretch sheets come in 6 colors, including a dark purple and a lighter lavender color. I purchased the Natural Oat in queen size. They’re really pretty! But they’re a bit more light gray than oat colored.

Purple SoftStretch Sheets Review

Purple came out with new sheets this year that I’ve wanted to try. They’re called The Purple SoftStretch sheets. I bought them immediately and tried them out. I want to tell you what I thought of them because I’ve already tested out The Purple Sheets they’ve had for a few years now.

First, the backstory.

Purple gave me the Purple sheets set when they came out a few years ago. I requested them because I know that the biggest selling point of Purple sheets is they compliment the Purple mattress (which we have).

While you can use them on any mattress and they’re very comfortable, there’s ideal for a Purple hybrid. That’s because they’re deep–allowing for up to 15 inches thick mattress. We have the Purple Hybrid Premiere that’s 14 inches deep. And the mattress I tested them on is 14 inches deep.

You can get 2 additional colors, in twin size only, keep reading our Purple SoftStretch Sheets for that tip that you may have missed.

I got Purple Softstretch sheets in a queen, which comes with
(1) Fitted Sheet, (1) Flat Sheet, (2) Pillowcases

Fits mattresses up to 15 inches deep.

If you want to see these sheets, check out our video on YouTube.

How Stretchy Are They?

Another reason they go best with a Purple mattress is that the top of a Purple mattress is flexible and allows for movement. So having tight fitting sheets hurts the ability to flex and move with you. Stretchy sheets greatly enhances how the mattress feels.

I thought that The Purple Sheets were too stretchy though. They were like sleeping in a pair of nylons. Our toes got caught in them. They ended up in a wad at the end of the bed. They didn’t hold their shape well. We’re used to cotton sheets but they can be too tight on a mattress like Purple.

So I wanted to try again.

I’m happy to say that these are perfect – stretchy but not too stretchy.

However, if you’re used to cotton sheets they will bunch up easier and don’t hold their shape. We used to fold over our sheets and comforter together and it didn’t look good with these sheets. We’ve since changed to a Crane & Canopy duvet cover that looks like it’s folded over but isn’t. That way we can leave the sheets under the comforter and it looks better on a made bed.

Read Customer Reviews

The Purple Soft Stretch Sheets come in 6 colors, including natural oat, a deep purple, a light lavender called lilac, a deeper gray, a light blue and what they call true white.

There is no cream color or tan colors available. The natural oat is more like a light gray color, not what you traditionally think of as oatmeal.

TIP: the kid’s sheets are actually the same SoftStretch sheets with different packaging and the addition of pink and blue (more of a royal blue). They’re only available in twin size.

67% Rayon from Bamboo Viscose
23% Polyester
10% Spandex

The polyester helps them keep their shape.

Purple sheets reviewTEMPERATURE
I don’t sleep hot but they have a nice weight to them and don’t make you warm, just like the mattress. I thought the temperature was perfect and as I’m talking to you, it’s summer and temps are in the 90s.

If you’re a hot sleeper you can’t beat this combo!

If you’re a lady you know those really soft butter leggings that don’t flatter everyone but we can’t resist because they’re so soft? These sheets are almost that soft. I mean they should make this fabric into pajamas because they’re heavenly. I like a cotton soft feel not a silky cotton and these aren’t slidy.

There are no seams in these sheets.

I paid $119 plus tax for this set because I bought them with a deal. Purple is always running deals so check their website. They often have sales, especially if you bundle it with a mattress or other accessories like a pillow.

Regular price is $149 for a queen size set.

30-day return period
1 year warranty
As always they have financing so you can get everything now but pay for it monthly with financing offered through Purple. You can pay online and set up autopay.

As far as washing instructions, wash in cool and line dry is best. Or low heat on the dryer to help them last longer. I was worried, but they didn’t shrink at all even though I accidentally washed them on regular (medium) heat.

QuickZip Sheets Make Washing and Disinfecting Sheets so Much Easier

By | Bedding, Sheets Reviews | No Comments

quickzip sheets

  • Bottom or fitted sheets are the biggest pain to launder because putting them back on is tough.
  • QuickZip has a 2-piece zipper design – you zip the top part of the fitted sheet on and off to make it easy to remove and put back on.
  • Besides sheets they have a zipper system to make duvets easier – duvets are perhaps the most challenging bedding there is to make!
  • Most people don’t wash their sheets often enough. QuickZip makes it easier.

QuickZip Sheets Review

We had a chance to try out QuickZip sheets. What we found is that they’re very durable feeling, thicker cotton. The zipper is well built and unzipping the top sheet is very easy to do. The biggest pain of washing and changing the sheets is definitely putting back on the fitted sheet.

It’s much easier to not have to remove and put it on. Instead, you leave it on and just change out the top. The sides and elastic part stays on the bed. That makes it more likely you’ll change your sheets more often because you it’s so much faster. You can still wash the sides but most people don’t need to wash them as often.

This is especially handy if you have guests or another reason (like someone is sick) that you need to wash the bottom sheets more often. Taking off sheets isn’t the hard part. Where you really save time and your back is putting them back on. You no longer need to lift up the mattress and fight with getting it back on.

As for the top sheet, it’s simply there to match the bottom. There’s nothing different about them.

One improvement is we wish that they had a version that zips your top and bottom sheet together so that they didn’t shift or fall off. This would help end the war with sheets if you sleep with someone who steals them. If we could try another product from QuickZip it would be the duvet – one of the most difficult bedding there is to put on the bed! And the ties sometimes break or don’t stay tied tight enough. Their system looks a lot more durable.

QuickZip Shees Material, Colors and Sizes

Choose from the more silky sateen or the cotton percale sheets. We have the cotton percale (requested and sent to us by the company) and they’re a little thicker and feel so well made.

  • Sizes include: twin, twin xl, full, full deep, queen, king
  • Crisp, cool and light percale weave with a matte finish. 100% cotton, 200 thread count.

We recommend the premium which comes with the base and 2 sheets if you don’t sleep with a top sheet. Otherwise we recommend the euro set (if you have a duvet). You can order sheets, pillowcases and duvets separately or together.
Easy comforter and duvet

How Often Should you Wash your Sheets?

There’s no definitive rule on how often to wash your sheets. However, think about this. You probably wear clothes once and wash them. It seems logical to wash the sheets at least every week. Exactly how often depends on your situation. However, unofficial studies have show that college students NEVER wash their sheets. So they may go 4 years or so (unless a parent steps in). And if you eat in bed, drink in bed or otherwise utilize your bed to its full capacity, you need to wash your sheets more often.

Those who have skin issues or night sweats may have to change sheets every night. When someone in your family is sick or has the flu it’s important to wash and disinfect the sheets after they are well. Be sure to wash separately from other laundry.

Fitted Sheets can be a Nightmare to Change

Here’s a fun, lighthearted look at how standard fitted sheets can make your life miserable…

The Problem with Washing your Sheets

The issue with washing your sheets isn’t pulling off all the bedding. That part isn’t difficult to do. It’s making the bed again afterwards. And possibly the worst part is getting all the corners on the bed when it comes to the fitted sheet. If you don’t secure them you have a problem with them popping off and your sheets will get all bunched up. Sometimes you’re in a tight room and it’s difficult to get around on all sides of the bed.

QuickZip is a great concept because the fitted part of the sheets stay on the bed (you can wash them less frequently). The middle part zips off and on so that you don’t need to fuss with the corners. Plus, if you get their starter pack it has 2 fitted sheets so that you can remove one sheet and put the next one on. So you don’t have to wait to remake the bed or sleep without sheets in case they’re not dry in time.

Ideal for Daybeds

If you have a daybed with a high back and sides you know how difficult it is to change the fitted sheets on this bed. QuickZip makes changing the bottom sheet surface so much easier.  You don’t feel or see the heavy-duty plastic zipper since it’s covered by a flap of cotton. They have a neat and tidy look. They also make changing the sheets on bunk beds much easier.

QuickZip zipping sheets

QuickZip Sheets in Navy Percale

QuickZip bedding fits standard US mattress sizes crib through California King (plus special RV and dorm sizes). The fitted sheets have vertical elastic in the corners so they’ll flex to fit a wide range of mattress thicknesses (AKA “drop” or “pocket”), and shapes (including many rounded corners).

Crib Sheets

The same goes for crib sheets. You’re more likely to have more frequent changes because babies and diapers…and it usually involves removing the whole mattress. But again, with QuickZip you can simply unzip the top (babies don’t use top sheets). This makes it so much quicker and easier to change soiled sheets, especially in the middle of the night by otherwise worn out parents.

Crib sheets come in 15 designs which you can mix or match (and are so cute). Designed to fit all standard crib mattresses (52” x 27” wide, 5” to 7” thick); Compatible with all crib flat mattress pads; 100% Cotton.zippable crib sheetsFor kids who are potty training, special needs or otherwise need a faster way to change the sheets, get the QuickZip Fitted Sheet Set. How To Buy The Best Bedsheets For Your Mattress Type

The quality and type of mattress you have can mean all the difference between a good night’s sleep and a restless one. The type of sheets you have too can affect your comfort level. And even after waking up refreshed, it’s frustrating to wake up with bedsheets that have popped off the corners.

We all know that sheets come in twin, full, queen, king. But these terms aren’t always a one-size-fits-all. Choosing the right sheets depends on the type of mattress you have. Mattress toppers can make a difference too.

Even if you know which size to get, then there’s figuring out the best sheet material. It can get overwhelming.

Read on to find out more about how to buy the best bedsheets for your mattress type.

Measuring Your Bed

Before you select a standard sheet size, you need to get out a measuring tape and get the exact measurements of your bed.

Most sheet measurements include just the surface–the width and height. But if you have a deep mattress or thick toppers, then finding the best bedsheets means including the depth.

A typical twin bed measures 38 inches wide and 75 inches long. A twin XL mattress has the same width as a standard twin but is 80 inches long. Many college dorm rooms have twin XL mattresses. However, these mattresses can be thinner, so a standard twin mattress might fit anyway. Many colleges will have the mattress measurements available on their website.

When picking out the best bedsheets for a twin, make sure the fitted sheet is 39 by 75 inches (or 80 inches for an XL). The flat sheet should measure 66 by 90 inches, which will work for either type of twin mattress.

AmazonBasics Microfiber Sheet Set - Twin Extra-Long, Dark GreyAmazonBasics Microfiber Sheet Set – Twin Extra-Long, Dark GreySolid White 300 Thread Count Twin Extra Long size Sheet Set 100 % Cotton 3pc Bed Sheet set (Deep Pocket)Twin XL By sheetsnthingsSolid White 300 Thread Count Twin Extra Long size Sheet Set 100 % Cotton 3pc Bed Sheet set (Deep Pocket)Twin XL By sheetsnthings

A full or double bed measures 54 by 75 inches. If you’re a tall person, you’ll either need to sleep on a diagonal or move up to a queen. The fitted sheet for a full mattress should also be 54 by 75 inches. The flat sheet measures 81 by 96 inches.

A queen is not only wider than a full but also longer. Standard queen beds are 60 inches wide by 80 inches long. Flat sheets for a queen measure the same. The flat sheets measure 90 by 102 inches.

Many people believe that a king bed is the same as two twin beds put together. In fact, it’s the same as two twin XL beds. That’s what makes them such a popular choice for a split king adjustable bed where each person gets the mattress they want but they can be paired to move together or separately.

A king bed is 76 inches wide by 80 inches long. Fitted sheets are 78 by 80 inches, and the flat sheet is 108 by 102 inches.

Some people prefer beds that are a bit longer. In that case, a California king is a wise choice. They measure 72 by 84 inches. It’s not as wide, but a few inches longer than a standard king. This is important to know when buying bed sheets. Regular king sheets won’t fit on a California king mattress.

Mattress Height

As mentioned, the height or depth of a mattress can also make a difference when picking out the best type of bedsheet. If a mattress is extra tall, or if you have a thick topper, then you might want to go up a size for the fitted sheet.

Most boxed mattresses are 7 to 10 inches in height. But some can be as much as 16 to 22 inches high. If you have a mattress that’s more than 12 inches, then you need to find a fitted sheet that has deep pockets or sheets that are stretchy (like Purple’s sheets which fit mattresses from 9 inches up to 14 inches in height).

Pocket depth varies too. So be sure to get a sheet with the appropriate pocket depth. It’s always better to err on the larger side. Otherwise, your sheets will slip off the mattress.

Best Sheet Material

Most experts agree that cotton is the best fabric for bedsheets but it depends on how you sleep.

There are a lot of other options out there that claim to be extra soft. But if they’re made of synthetic material, including polyester, rayon, and microfiber and they can be good for athletes or anyone who sweats a lot because they’re super absorbent.

Synthetic material is durable, is often stain resistant, is sometimes wrinkle-free, and claims to be softer. However, it doesn’t breathe, and that can be bad for your skin, and also the environment.

Tencel is a great option that’s better for the environment. It’s made from fibers of eucalyptus trees which are renewable. Bamboo can be good or bad for the environment depending on how it’s made. Plus, it’s softer than most cotton sheets.

The most luxurious sheets we know of are better than a 4-star hotel. They’re made in England and they’re 600 thread count and can fit up to 19 inch tall beds. They’re the BRAND OF SHEETS THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND SLEEPS ON and bear the royal seal. They’ve been manufactured by the same company since 1861. These are the sheets we sleep on. They’re pure luxury and make you feel like royalty.  Check them out here.

If you want to save money, go for a cotton blend, but be sure that the sheets are mostly cotton, at least 70%.

When buying cotton, the type of cotton you choose is a matter of preference and budget. Egyptian cotton is the highest quality sheet material, followed by Pima cotton.

Organic cotton sheets are free of chemicals. If you don’t buy organic cotton, then be sure to wash your sheets before using.

Cotton Sheet Options

Cotton sheets go by a variety of names–percale, sateen, linen, flannel, and jersey. They all have different assets.

For instance, flannel sheets are a good choice for the winter. They tend to stay warm because of their thickness. The quality of flannel sheets depends on the ounces of material per square yard, instead of thread count. A good flannel sheet will have four or more ounces.

Jersey knit is also a good winter sheet option. But be sure to check the fine print. Some jersey cotton sheets are not 100% cotton, and some are. They tend to be affordable but don’t always last as long as flannel.

For summer, many people prefer linen sheets. Although they don’t come with high thread counts, they are breathable and absorb moisture, which is great for warm summer nights.

For any time of the year, either percale or sateen cotton sheets are great. Percale sheets have a tight weave and are soft and durable. Sateen sheets have a special threading that gives them a luxurious satin quality.

Thread Count

Many people are under the impression that the higher the thread count the better the quality. Thread count, when indicated, means the number of threads per square inch. A higher thread count is denser, so the fabric is heavier and more durable.

But that doesn’t mean softer. Sure, you want to get at least 200 thread count, but more than 800 is overkill.

What’s more important than thread count when choosing the best bedsheets is the quality of the fiber.

To sum up, the best bedsheets to buy are 100% Egyptian cotton organic percale sheets that have a thread count of at least 200 and the right pocket size to fit your bed. But you have some flexibility in regards to what kind of cotton and what kind of knit, fiber or weave.

It’s a good idea to have a breathable sheet for the summer and thicker sheets to keep you warm in the winter.

Finally, be sure to have a few sets of sheets that you love so that you can change your sheets every week. Once a week is ideal, but every two weeks is fine. If you aren’t in the habit of changing your sheets that often, here’s why you should.

Why Choose a Low Profile Mattress? Best Thin Mattresses For Bunk Beds, Camping and More

By | Mattresses, Sheets Reviews | No Comments

Low Profile Mattress

Right now thicker mattresses are in style but there’s still high demand for lower profile beds. The industry standard height for a bed is 7 inches but today that would be considered a thin mattress. Mattresses have gotten a lot deeper in the last decade or so. Some mattresses are 24 inches deep, not including the box spring!

And, instead of a box spring that also adds height, mattress retailers are selling things like a Bunkie Board, which are very thin. It’s only 1.5 inches thick. You can use them in place of a box spring.

One reason mattresses are so much higher than they were 20 years ago is people are more selective and things like a pillow top or extra foam layers which add to the height. Also, the style is a larger, thicker mattress. For some, that extra height spells luxury.

Another reason is the rise in popularity of platform beds, which have a strong enough foundation to support a mattress without box springs. So you need a thicker mattress if you want a taller bed. If you have a box spring and mattress together, they’re much higher than a standard bed.

Typically a low profile mattress is under 6 inches deep.

Best CHEAP Thin Mattress Brands

Our favorite brands for reasonably priced thinner mattresses are Linenspa, Zinus and Tochta. These are all highly rated and not expensive for the quality. Each is ideal for anyone who wants a lower profile mattress.

Custom Mattress – Starting at 4″ Deep

We prefer Tochta for the quality – they have several models to choose from and are reasonably priced. But the best part is, you can get a custom build starting at just 4″ deep!! Use their online price quote so you can see the cost depending on what features and thickness you want. Check out our Tochta RV mattress review on YouTube.

Top 10 Reasons to Buy a Low Height Mattress

Here’s why you might want a lower height mattress:

  1. It costs less to ship a thinner mattress because they’re not as heavy.
  2. A thinner mattress is easier to pack and move. You can fold them up and transport them easier. See this video on how we move a mattress. With a lighter bed you could move a bed by yourself and fit it into the back of your car!
  3. You’re short and don’t want to have to use a ladder to get into your bed. A thick mattress can be challenging to get onto or get off of. Even taller people may have problems getting onto or off a mattress that’s too high off the ground.
  4. Your health makes it difficult to get up onto a thick mattress. Lower profile mattresses can be ideal for the elderly or those who cannot get in/out of bed easily when it’s too high off the ground.
  5. For safety reasons. A child can’t easily get on/off the bed and may fall if they roll off the bed in their sleep on a mattress and frame that are near the ground.
  6. Ideal for an RV or similar tight space.
  7. Budget – thinner mattresses are usually less expensive.
  8. To use on bunk beds and get more clearance space (and don’t hit your head on the bed above you or the ceiling).
  9. For adjustable beds. If your mattress is too thick they won’t move with the head of the bed and look funny sticking up straight above the top of the frame.
  10. For sofa sleeper beds – a thicker mattress won’t fit back into a couch when you want to fold it.
  11. For camping, in a tent or the back of a truck (you need to pack something lightweight). Sometimes you need a thinner air mattress that’s easier to pack in and out.

Why Purple Bed Sheets Go Best with Your Purple Mattress

By | bamboo sheets, Microfiber sheets, Polyester sheets, Sheets Reviews, Silk sheets | No Comments

UPDATE: Purple has come out with new SoftStretch sheets which cost a bit more but we’ve tested them and prefer them. They’re not as stretchy as the original sheets but still have stretch and come in more colors.

  • Purple is known first and foremost for its mattresses, but it also has bedding products like a seat cushion, mattress protectors, pillows and sheets.
  • Purple bed sheets are extremely soft and made with breathable fabric to keep you cool. They’re also moisture wicking.
  • There are no seams at all in Purple sheets.
  • The stretchiness allows the mattress (including the polymer layer) to move with you as you move in your sleep.

When we say these are stretchy sheets, we mean it.  Stretchier than a yoga instructor! Could outstretch Stretch Armstrong! Yes, Purple sheets could win a world’s record for being the stretchiest sheets. And that means they fits so many mattresses, short/tall, flexible/inflexible top…AND they hold mannequins!

If they’re a bit too stretchy (think nylons), be sure to check out our Purple SoftStretch Sheets review here.

Unbox Mattress writes about mattresses and sleep related products and may earn a commission when you shop through our links.

Normally we’d say that your sheets don’t need to be the same brand as your mattress. I mean, who buys or raves about Serta sheets? We haven’t heard anyone. However, Purple is different. It’s a unique mattress with a flexible polymer layer right below the cover and in this case you should consider the brand name.

Buying non-stretchy and/or tight sheets will create a drum effect and negate much of the benefit of The Purple Bed. With the new beds (Purple2, Purple3 and Purple4) Purple even made their mattress cover stretchy. We predict that any future change to the original Purple mattress will include a stretchier cover.

At $114 for their queen-sized sheet set, you’re getting a pretty good deal. Before Purple came out with their own sheets they recommended the Sheex brand which comes in much higher at over $160.

I tried Purple’s sheets and can see why they recommend them – especially for the thicker new Purple mattresses. Btw, the Purple sheets are made to fit all of their beds with room to spare – they’re made to fit beds up to 16 inches high.

Purple Mattress Sheets

The Puple sheets comes with one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and two standard size pillowcases (one pillowcase for twin XL sizes). It’s available in 4 colors – mostly white and beiges except for one exception – the color purple. We tested the white, but we sort of wish we’d tried the purple ones.

What makes these sheets so stretchy? They’re not cotton. Instead they’re made with 10% Spandex, 90% Bamboo-derived Viscose (which is like a rayon). It gives them a delicate feel like they will easily tear or pile, yet they are strong.

The sheets are easy to put on. thick stretchy elastic on the inside of the fitted sheet is rubberized, letting it grip onto the mattress and leaving little room for the sheets to move around.

Purple Bed Sheets: Care

If you’d like, you can wash the sheets before your first use but it’s not necessary. They are made to be stain resistant but they’re not stain proof.  Just be sure to follow the instructions to machine wash in cold water and DO NOT PUT IN THE DRYER. If you dry these in the dryer you’ll ruin them. Instead Hang to dry or tumble dry NO HEAT. For this reason you may want a backup set.

Bamboo fiber is naturally breathable and wicks moisture away from the skin. Unlike cotton, bamboo fabric allows moisture to evaporate into the air quickly. Combined with the grid of the polymer, you get maximum airflow for a mattress. Since the top of the Purple mattress isn’t a solid surface like most mattresses, it allows more airflow through your bedding.

Cons of Purple Sheets

If there was anything we didn’t like about purple bed sheets it’s that some may find them overly stretchy. They can ball up towards the base of your bed or you can get wrapped up in them. Some people will love the feeling of being hugged by their sheets. Others may want to try something like jersey knit sheets instead. These are sometimes called t shirt knit. They’re stretchy, but less so.  They’re also a little thicker. And although they’re priced lower, they won’t have the moisture wicking of the Purple sheets. You know how well tshirts hold up at the gym? If you sweat at night you’re going to want to spring for the Purple sheets.

No More Sliding Off the Corners

Purple uses an industrial elastic so your sheets stay on all night. That’s a big deal if you’ve ever dealt with regular sheets that pop off the corners of your mattress. Along with the Purple mattress protector, they’re easy to put on and they stay on.

Purple Sheets Thread Count

Purple sheets don’t have a thread count as there is no cotton in them. They’re perfect sheets for summer and warmer climates, or if you tend to sleep warm.
