Nest Plush Bed

Nest Alexander Hybrid | Mattress with Different Firmness on Each Side

By | Mattresses | No Comments

A lot of people are concerned about mattress firmness and feel. It’s even more of a concern if you sleep with someone who has a different preference than you do. You like a more medium feel and the other person likes to sink into their mattress (more plush). Or maybe there’s a significant weight difference between you.

Either way, the Nest Alexander Hybrid offers a lot of benefits that other mattresses don’t have. There are 5 solid reasons to consider the Nest Alexander Hybrid. We may earn a commission when you shop through our links and you may get better sleep.

Nest Alexander Hybrid

Here are 5 reasons to choose an Alexander Signature Hybrid that you may not know about.

1. Euro Top

If you like a pillow top mattress, you’ll love the look and contouring you get from the Alexander mattress. It features a euro pillow top design. The Nest Alexander hybrid mattress is 13″ deep with springs. The top layer is meant add more softness. But with the Nest there’s additional benefits you may not be aware of.

You can choose between a plush, medium or firm. And since firmness is the #1 issue people have that makes them return a mattress, Nest offers something unique: split firmness and comfort exchange.

2. Split Firmness

The first point is that you can get a split firmness (for king or cal king size only). So one side is medium and the other side is firm. I recommend trying to do soft and firm though. Here’s why. You will feel the edge in the middle because the softer side will sink down much further than the firm side. So there will be a height difference.

The heavier person will also add more pressure onto the mattress where they sleep which can mean their side can break down sooner than the side with a lighter person. The foam might wear out quicker on the side with more weight.

3. FREE Comfort Layer Exchange

Besides split firmness, Nest offers another benefit. Nest will allow you to exchange the top layer. So you can change out a firm for a medium, or just the firm side if you don’t have a split firmness. You can do that one time, anytime within the 100 night trial window.

Start with more firm than erring on going too soft. Remember, you can always make a firm bed softer down the road by adding a mattress topper, but you can’t make a soft bed more firm. Or, it’s harder to.

4. Get More Years out of your Mattress

Nest Alexander Hybrid has a zipper so you can change/replace/swap the foam comfort layer at any time. So if your mattress does wear out on top (loses support), you may be able to get more time from it by changing out the top layer. Of course if you’re out of the 100 night window, you will pay for that, but it costs less than a new mattress. And compared to a mattress topper, it’s more stable (won’t shift or move around).

5. Less Waste and Hassle

Mattresses get returned and some end up in landfills where they take up a lot of space. Nest gives you more options so you don’t have to return the mattress (which can be a hassle). You can work with them to get the right feel for you. Firmness is subjective, so you need to try it out and sleep on the mattress for a while to know if you like it or not.

What Is Great about Nest’s Warranty

Nest Bedding’s warranty is a lifetime warranty for the original owner of the mattress. One common reason for returning a mattress is because of indents or body impressions. It creates hills and valleys out of your mattress and that won’t support your body properly. Which can be tough on your neck and back. Nest requires a 1 inch depression for warranties. It can be returned if the impression is deeper than an inch. Most mattresses require 1.5 to 2 inches deep to qualify for a warranty claim.

It’s also impressive that Nest clearly states how to file a warranty claim and promises a return within 7 days. This builds trust because sometimes dealing with customer service can be very stressful. It’s also helpful that Nest is made in the USA (I’ve met the CEO, they’re based in Arizona).

Which Firmness Should You Choose?

Select Medium if you…

  • Are a combination sleeper, back and side sleeper.
  • Want to feel supported by your mattress, with a little give.
  • Are an average weight.
  • Are not sure which feel to choose. Medium is the most popular firmness, which is why many mattresses in a box started with medium firm models.

Select Plush if you…

  • Are a side sleeper.
  • Looking for pressure point relief and gentle support.
  • Are lighter, under 140 lbs.
  • Know plush is what you like because you already know you prefer a soft mattress

Select Lux Firm if you…

  • Mainly sleep on your back or stomach.
  • Are a side or back sleeper who require additional support for your back (back pain/issues).
  • Recommended to by a medical professional.
  • Prefer sleeping on a firmer mattress, with a plush pillow top.

I think the Nest Alexander Hybrid is the perfect choice if you’re agonizing over which mattress to buy because you don’t agree on firmness or you just like the peace of mind knowing you’re not committed to a certain firmness. Life situations change. Our needs and preferences can be different at different stages of our lives. Rather than spend a lot on a new mattress, you can replace part of the one you have.

FREE Shipping and How Long it Will Take

Shipping is free to all Nest Bedding customers within the continental United States. Your Alexander Signature Hybrid is made to order, meaning your bed is built up to a few weeks before your order or soon after your order is placed. Expect it to take 8-10 days to be made, then it will be shipped to your door.

0% Financing

You can get your Nest mattress now but pay for it over time with Nest and Affirm. There are no gimmicks like deferred interest or hidden fees. The total you see at checkout is always what you’ll actually pay. You will need your name, email, mobile phone number, birthday and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number. That is to protect your identity. They try to approve everyone and you’ll see the terms of the loan clearly stated before you agree.

What is great is that you can pay online, with a debit card, bank transfer or check. I’ve been through the process with Affirm for a bed frame and it was very easy because you can schedule payments online. Mattress companies don’t make money from these loans, it simply enables them to sell more mattresses because they’re more affordable.
To pay with Affirm, you go to your shopping cart and check out. On the second screen it gives you the option to pay with credit card (maybe by default). Use the small down arrow to expand the menu options and select Pay with Affirm.

Firmness is subjective

One person’s medium firm will feel like a board to another person. Someone who sleeps hot will heat up memory foam with body heat over time, which makes it feel more soft than it will to others. Memory foam feels harder when it’s cold and feels softer with heat, so if you’re looking for a firmer feel, choose a mattress with less memory foam or one that has gel inside.

When I worked in the mattress industry people returned the same mattress. One person said because it was too firm. Another person said it was too soft.

Customer Reviews

5 out of 5 stars.

This mattress is amazing!! It arrived all folded and compacted vacuum sealed and I was thinking why is it so thin it can’t be comfortable… I was 100% wrong the mattress grew as I unpacked it and it was thick and plush.. firm and extremely comfortable… had it for over 2 months now and it’s still and comfortable and helps me sleep better… am truly amazing mattress highly recommend!!

5 out of 5 stars.

Love that mattress is firm firm firm. When it says firm, it is firm. It still has cushion but still maintains its’ firmness. Another plus is that the mattress has depth to it and sits up high. Firm and depth makes this mattress a winner.

4 out of 5 stars.

I got this mattress and upon first impression I thought it wouldn’t work for me because it felt relatively firm and I have a curvy body type. After sleeping on the mattress for a week I realized it actually did well with my body. I didn’t experience any back pain like I usually do with firmer mattresses and in fact I slept well. Very pleasantly surprised by this mattress!

What is a firm mattress?

It’s one that doesn’t have a ton of give. If you press your hand on it, the materials won’t press down easily like foam typically will. As far as construction, thinner layers of memory foam and less layers between you and the springs helps create a more firm mattress.

firmer mattress

With a firmer mattress you won’t see a hand print when you push down on the mattress. Softer mattresses leave an indention for a few seconds.

Who Needs a Firm Mattress?

You may need or prefer a firmer mattress if you are a

  • Back sleeper
  • Stomach sleeper
  • Are a heavier weight

Back sleepers need more firm support to keep their spine in alignment because if your mattress compresses along the heavier parts of your body, it can make your body sink in more there. This can lead to back pain.

The Brick firm mattress in a box

Notice how there’s almost no give in the mattress where her hips and shoulders are. This is a firmer mattress.

If you’re a stomach sleeper, you need to keep your hips and stomach from sinking too far into the mattress. If you sink in more on those places than others, your spine won’t be aligned.

Hybrid mattresses are the best types of mattresses if you’re heavier. A softer mattress will sink in more and compress. Over time the mattress can wear out. You’ll see divets form where you sleep. Coils offer more structural support. People who are lighter weight won’t press into the mattress as deeply and so a softer mattress will feel more firm to them.

Side sleepers usually need more sinking in and cushioning on their hips and shoulders because your weight is concentrated on those areas. If your mattress is too firm, it can create shoulder and hip pain.

What firmness should my mattress be?
Most lighter sleepers need a more plush mattress in the 2-5/10 range on the firmness scale. If you weigh between 130 and 230lbs you probably need a medium-firm mattress (4-6/10 range). For those 250lbs or heavier, pick a mattress in the 7-10 range.

Does Body Weight Affect Mattress?

Yes, your weight affects how a mattress feels to you. Someone who weighs 250lbs, for example, will find a mattress much feels much softer than someone who weighs 150lbs. That’s because additional weight puts more pressure on the materials, causing them to give or sink in more.

Can you get a firm mattress in a box?

Yes, in addition to The Brick, there are several options for someone who wants a firm mattress in a box.

Is firm mattress better for back?

Generally speaking, a firm mattress offers more support for your back. A firm mattress keeps your lower back from collapsing, or bowing as your shoulders, hips, stomach sink in more than lighter parts of your body.

Which mattress in a box is the firmest?

Besides The Brick, here are firmer mattresses in a box:

So the most firm on our list is The Plank. If you sleep with someone who prefers a different firmness, check out this mattress with different firmness on each side.

Pillow Top Mattress in a Box (9 Luxurious Mattresses to Choose From)

By | Mattresses | No Comments

What is a pillow top mattress?

A pillow top mattress is a mattress that has a separate section on top of the mattress to make it softer. It’s like adding a pillow on top of your bed. Unlike a mattress topper, it’s sewn onto the mattress. It’s attached to the bed, and is not removable.

When boxed mattresses first came out, most were around 10 inches deep and all foam. Today, there are pillow top mattresses in a box that come rolled up and shipped right to you. The best part is you get a long sleep trial and that means you get at least 4 months to sleep on the mattress to know how you like it. During that timeframe, you can return it for a full refund if it’s not right for you. Some mattresses in a box will require that you give it at least 30 days to adjust to a new mattress before it’s eligible for a return.

pillow top bed in a box mattress vs euro top

2 Types of Pillow Top Mattresses

There are 2 types of pillow top mattresses: pillow top or euro top. Pillow tops are flatter around the edges, like if you smushed a pillow top top of a bed, then sewed it on. Like an actual pillow, it’s flatter along the edges than it is in the middle. They’re stitched on top of the mattress.

A euro top is stitched beneath the mattress cover. Rather than flattening out along the edges it’s square with the mattress (it’s box shaped with straight edges).

Both usually add 1-3 inches of height to the bed and can be made of foam, memory foam, latex or other material. Most often it’s made of memory foam for contouring.

Why get a pillow top mattress?

Pillow tops are usually added to a hybrid mattress (a mattress that has springs) to add an additional layer of softness between you and the springs. The closer you are to the springs the more firm the mattress feels. It also adds height and has a more luxurious look to it. The mattresses on our list start at 13″ deep. It’s also more common to have longer sleep trials – up to 18 months! So if you’re not happy during that timeframe, you can return your mattress for a full refund.

what to do with old mattress

What to do with Old Mattress | 5 Ways to Get Rid of a Mattress

By | Mattresses | No Comments

Sometimes your mattress is beyond saving. It’s lived its life and supported your back. Now it’s done. Now what? You have some options to weigh. Let’s just hope that you’re not going to dump that mattress on the street, in an alley or heaven forbid, on the side of the road. So many mattresses end up on the sides of the freeway, abandoned for someone else to clean up.

Don’t be that person!

There are many options for getting rid of your old mattress. Some are free and some will cost, but may be worth it to you to pay. Some cities like New York, will haul away your mattress if you leave it at the curb, but most of us aren’t that lucky.

If you have a box spring, they can be even harder to dispose of than a mattress! So keep that in mind too. We may earn a commission when you shop through our links.

What to do with Old Mattress

Here are 5 things you can do with your old mattress.

  1. If you’re getting a new mattress, see if the company you’re buying from offers a mattress removal service.
  2. Donate or sell/give away your old mattress (assuming its still in useable shape).
  3. Recycle all or part of the mattress.
  4. Have a junk company come and pick it up (they will take it to the dump for you or in some cases, recycle or donate it).
  5. Tear it down and put it in a dumpster or the trash

old mattress in dumpster

Mattresses That Offer Removal Services

For the easiest transition from an old to a new mattress, with the least amount of work for you, these mattress companies offer mattress removal services for an additional cost. The advantage is the timing. You’ll get the old mattress removed and the new mattress put on the bed frame for you, usually in one visit.

Here are 3 mattresses that offer removal services, that we know of, be sure to confirm as COVID restrictions may change the terms or service:

Haven – delivery, set-up your new mattress, and take your old mattress (adds 1-2 weeks for delivery) for $149. Add $29 for removal of 2nd piece (mattress & boxspring).

Idle Mattress – This service is an additional $149.

Casper – in-home delivery and setup for $149 and includes removal of your current mattress/boxspring should you need it.

Nectar – for $149, your new bed is delivered, set up and you have the option to have your existing bed removed.

Donate your Mattress

If your mattress is in good condition, you can donate or give it away. It shouldn’t be stained or torn. If it just needs to be cleaned, see our article on how to get urine off a mattress and the video. The solution works on many stains.

Some nonprofits will send someone to pick up your mattress. Call nonprofits such as Salvation Army or Habitat for Humanity or a shelter, to see what’s available in your area. If that doesn’t work, you could list your mattress on a place such as Facebook Marketplace/local Facebook Classifieds group, or Craigslist.

Recycle your Mattress

Ideally, you can recycle the mattress.

According to the Mattress Recycling Council, “more than 50,000 mattresses end up in landfills each day.” So hopefully, you can help reduce that. I did a video about a mattress recycling facility that was a partnership with industry and the city dump, however, there was a fire and it was shut down. This was awful news and we still hope that other cities around the country will look to them as a model of what can be done to reduce the number of mattresses that end up in the landfill.

If possible, you can reuse parts of your mattress. In my state, I know of a woman who makes dog beds out of mattresses and toppers and then donates the beds to local pet shelters. But that’s a small operation. The Aria hotel in Las Vegas has their old mattresses recycled into dog beds.

It usually costs to recycle a mattress, call first in case you have to have an appointment or to be sure they will take your particular mattress. You may not have a truck or way to lift and transport a mattress. It may be too far. This is the case with a mattress I needed to dispose of. So I cut down the foam and recycled the metal springs at a metal recycling company near me. They paid me $3 for it, which just about covered the gas. I folded it in half and tied it so it could fit into my SUV.

Have a Junk Company Come Pick Up your Mattress

After getting in trouble I fit the foam into our regular trash can. Load Up is an example of a company that will come and haul away your mattress. They’re priced lower than competitors, you can book online and get a price quote and they try to recycle as much as possible.

Put your Mattress in a Garbage Can, Dumpster

or Take it to the City Dump

I used a razor blade to cut down the foam layers into smaller pieces, removed the springs (fold them in half, tied them shut, then took them to be recycled at a metal recycler) and then threw the rest away. I had a dumpster but after it took up too much space, I moved it to the garbage can at my house.

Another time I folded the mattress in half, secured it with a tie down strap and put it into the dumpster.

As much as possible I hoped to avoid taking it to the city dump, it was a very thick and heavy mattress that wouldn’t fit in my car. Our dump is very dirty and gross. It needs a car wash outside when you leave!

Please ask for permission before using a public dumpster, if you illegally dump in one, they may fine you.

You can watch the process of me disposing of a mattress here:

How to Move a Mattress

If you need to move your mattress, this is the best method. If it’s a spring mattress that you need to transport to the dump or to be recycled, folding it in half will make it so much easier.

How will you dispose of your old mattress? Let us know in the comments. And it’s our honor to help you find a new mattress, whenever that may be!

lifetime warranty mattress

Lifetime Warranty Mattress | 11 Mattresses with a Lifetime Warranty in 2021

By | Mattresses | No Comments

Mattress shopping can be stressful because everyone is different and you’re trying to get the right mattress for you. And since you’ll sleep on your mattress for many years, you want it to last. So look for a Lifetime Warranty mattress. That means that you can rest assured knowing you’re covered if your mattress is defective. At the end of this article we’ll go more in depth about what to expect from your mattress warranty.

These mattresses come shipped to your home in a box, you can try them out at home and return for a full refund if you’re not satisfied. The length of time you have to return a mattress is called the sleep trial. You get a minimum of 100 nights. This is different from a warranty, which is mainly to catch defects and lasts much longer (lifetime warranties, in our list below).

Mattress Warranty Information

Mattress warranties are generally to cover manufacturing or product defects. not for preferences or general wear/tear. Be sure to read the warranty to see what’s covered. They’re all different. Usually the warranty covers the original owner only. So if you sell or give it to someone else, the warranty won’t transfer.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), requires the manufacturers or sellers of mattresses to have a warranty for their product. So they must repair or replace mattresses that are sold with defects or structural flaws (particularly those flaws that might interfere with the intended purpose of the item in question). Warranties must be in writing.

Warranty Specifications

Treatment and condition of mattress. Some online mattresses require that you put your mattress on a certain type of frame or it can void the warranty. Others specify that the mattress must be in good condition, which is another reason to always get a waterproof mattress protector

Sagging. Even though we all wish mattresses wouldn’t sag, normally sagging has to be very dramatic for it to be covered. This list has beds that must have 1″ to 2″ indents to qualify for a warranty claim. And they don’t usually cover replacements for subjective things, like if you think your mattress is too soft or firm (or it changes over time).

Costs and Who Pays

It’s possible you’ll be asked to pay some charges, such as shipping, or look at repair rather than getting a replacement. On this list, we give our highest recommendations to the following that we’ve worked with: Nolah, Nest Bedding and Layla. The others on the list may be unknown (not assumed to be poor). Note that Nectar, Awara and Dreamcloud are owned by the same company.

Generally speaking, you pay more for hybrids (they weigh more because there’s actual steel inside and they tend to be thicker), organic mattresses and mattresses with a longer warranty. The heavier the mattress, normally the higher the quality. And shipping costs are higher with mattresses that weigh more. Keep this in mind when mattress shopping.

What if the company goes out of business?

Online mattresses have been around for about 10 years now. If the company goes out of business, your warranty will no longer be valid. This happened to me once, with the Voila mattress. It was highly rated by Consumer Reports, making their top 5 lists more than once. We loved the mattress. However, After a year it jutted out on one side where the glue gave out. They sent us another one at no cost. A year later, the new replacement mattress had the exact same problem. This is likely why they went out of business. We haven’t heard of this happening with any other online brand but it made me aware that these are the types of issues that make a warranty important.

Keep in mind that even mattresses that have been around for much longer have issues like this sometimes. Though rare, it happens. That’s why there are warranties, to catch problems that happen. Some mattresses are made in different factories and are slightly different. They can change from one manufacturer or from one material to another for various reasons (supply changes, cost, etc).

What’s the Warranty if Purchased through Amazon?

Be aware, that if you buy a cheap mattress on Amazon, you may pay less, but they usually have more limited warranties – sometimes not even as long as buying the mattress from the brand’s website. Most of the time you’re going to go through Amazon’s customer service first, not the mattress company or manufacturer.

This is from Amazon’s website;

  • Mattresses in original packaging are returnable from your porch.
  • Unboxed, expanded, and full size mattresses are not returnable to Amazon. If you’re not satisfied with the quality of product, we will issue you a full refund within 30 days of receipt of shipment.
  • Contact the manufacturer directly for product registration and warranty related information.

Amazon No Credit Check Mattress | Starting at $9 a Month

By | Mattresses | No Comments

Need or want a new mattress but have bad credit or don’t want it to affect your credit? In this article we’ll give you 2 of the best options for buying a no credit check mattress. We may earn a commission when you shop through our links and you may get better sleep.

No Credit Check Mattress

Here are my top 2 best picks. After Amazon, I’ll share my top choice that has a mattress for as low as $9 a month – less than you spend on a cup of coffee at Starbucks.

Idle No Credit Mattress

Their Credit Check Won’t Affect your Credit

If you prefer to buy a mattress from another website, check out Idle Sleep. They have some of the best mattress financing you can find online. They work hard to get you the best terms, no matter what your credit is. They don’t make money on the credit either, it simply helps you be able to afford a quality mattress.

And it’s super affordable, starting as low as $9 per month.

Idle Sleep financing

Idle has partnered with SatisFi. To apply, you add what you want to the cart, proceed to the checkout page and simply click the financing option as payment method and follow the steps they ask to complete the process. You will find out right away if you are approved or not. (note: neither option will do a hard credit pull so it will not affect your credit to apply).

The great thing is you can pay online and set up auto payments so you don’t have to remember.

More Reasons to Choose Idle Financing

2 FREE Pillows

Get 2 shredded memory foam pillows with your mattress purchase.

18 Month Trial

Best of all, Idle has the longest trial – 18 months!! That means you have a year and a half to test it out and return it for a full refund if not satisfied. So if you’re pickier or just want the peace of mind of knowing you won’t be stuck with a mattress you don’t like, pick this option. It also doesn’t have the same restrictions as Amazon does.

Forever warranty

In addition to the long trial period, Idle offers a long warranty – one of the longest ones we’ve seen.

Affordable Luxury at 14 inch Thick

Choose from plush or medium gel memory foam or one of their hybrid mattresses with springs. All but the medium memory foam options are 14 inches thick. That’s a full 4 inches thicker than standard (most other mattresses in a box are 10 inches).

Save 20% + 2 FREE Pillows

Amazon No Credit Check Mattress

Amazon is truly the best place to get a mattress and they won’t check your credit. The good news is there are no fees or interest charges either. Other mattresses do offer amazing financing and most will check your credit but it won’t affect your credit.

Amazon offers a huge variety of name brand mattresses like Sealy, Stearns and Foster, Tempur-Pedic, Serta and more.

Plus they carry brands like Tuft & Needle, Casper, and Linenspa. In fact, these budget-friendly brands are the Amazon bestselling mattresses.

However, not every mattress is an Amazon monthly payments mattress (although this value mattress brand often does). Don’t worry, I’ll show you how to find the ones that do have financing!

You can find the mattresses that qualify when you click on the link and go to the mattress on Amazon. If there is financing offered, it will clearly state the monthly payment amount and duration under the price. That means it’s a no credit check mattress. Otherwise it will just list the price only.

TIP: check all variations of the mattress. Sometimes only certain models will offer no monthly payments. Like this #1 bestselling Linenspa mattress doesn’t have it for the 10 inch but it does for the 12 inch version.

See this example and how it says 5 monthly payments of $44? It is a no credit check mattress option. These mattresses let you make monthly payments.

no credit check mattressThere’s a catch though. Not everyone will get this option. Here’s how to know who qualifies. Make sure to keep reading if you don’t qualify for this one because I have another selection for you.

Who Qualifies for Amazon Mattress Financing

Here’s the catch. Not everyone qualifies for an Amazon no credit monthly payment mattress with a payment plan. According to Amazon, here are the terms and conditions for monthly payments:

1 – You must be a resident of the United States.

2 – Your Amazon.com account must have been active for at least one year.

3 – You must have a valid credit card or debit card associated with your Amazon.com account.

4 – You must have a good payment history on Amazon.com.

Most U.S. residents or Amazon shoppers can easily qualify.

To take advantage of Amazon’s monthly payments offer simply shop as you normally do by checking out the mattress and bedding categories. Then, look for items with the Monthly Payments purchasing option. It will break down what your exact payment will be.

Amazon financing is available for many items like sheets, pillows and blankets too. And we ALWAYS suggest getting a mattress protector with your new mattress.

Bottom line: If you’re in the market for a new mattress or bedding, you can now purchase what you need and pay for it in monthly payments. AND, you won’t even have to pay any interest or submit to a credit check!

Just make sure that you know the return policy. Some on Amazon only offer you 30 days. If you want a long time to decide, you’ll love our next choice.

These are the best no credit mattress choices I’ve found.
